Senior Accounting Analyst

State Compensation Insurance Fund is California’s largest provider of workers’ compensation insurance. The Senior Accounting Analyst will perform complex accounting duties, serve as a Subject Matter Expert, conduct research, prepare reports, and lead Cash Receipts processes while ensuring accuracy and compliance with state regulations.

Responsibilities

Independently performs more difficult accounting duties
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in system development activities and projects related to Cash Receipts functions
Conduct research, make recommendations and prepare reports for projects as required by Treasury Department management
Facilitate/provide communication, trainings, and presentations as appropriate
Serve as a lead in Cash Receipts account and perform monthly reconciliation
Conducting research, analysis and correction of discrepancies between General Ledger & Bank Statement and suspense accounts
Evaluate and implement Cash Receipts work flow processes
Lead to prepare and update of Cash Receipts procedures and guidelines to reflect current processing as required
Conduct research of daily cash receipts and posting status to State Fund systems to ensure payments posting accuracy and report
Including communications with IT personnel for lockbox report verification

Required

Equivalent to graduation from college, with specialization in accounting
Completion of a prescribed professional accounting curriculum given by a residence or correspondence school of accountancy, including courses in elementary and advanced accounting, auditing, cost accounting and business law
Completion of the equivalent of 19 semester hours of course work; 16 hours of which shall be professional accounting courses given by a collegiate-grade residence institution, including courses in elementary and advanced accounting, auditing, and cost accounting; and three semester hours of business law
Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Knowledge of governmental accounting and budgeting
Knowledge of the uniform accounting system and financial organization and procedures of the State of California and related laws, rules, and regulations
Knowledge of principles of business management, including office methods and procedures
Knowledge of principles of public finance
Knowledge of business law
Ability to apply accounting principles and procedures
Ability to analyze data and draw sound conclusions
Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
Ability to prepare clear, complete, and concise reports
Ability to make sound decisions and recommendations in regard to the professional accounting problems in maintaining control of a departmental budget
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the work
Ability to speak and write effectively

Preferred

Knowledge of Next Gen/Billing Center, CARE, and Account Reconciliation experiences
