Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership on a wide variety of CWA permitting projects for energy, government, and mining sector clients
Organize and supervise the work of a technical team; provide direction to guide projects to successful completion; conduct quality review of work products
Complete CWA 404 and 401 permit applications including avoidance, minimization and compensatory mitigation
Ability to explain the CWA 404 permit program nuances to clients and staff
GPS data collection and support
ArcGIS online mapping and data collection applications
Prepare written reports, tables, spreadsheets, databases, and maps for client and regulatory agency review
Coach and develop team members to achieve high standards in meeting organizational goals
Develop and maintain positive client relationships, including seeking opportunities for new business
Not all of the skills need to be demonstrated, but the ability to lead, coach, and teach is critical

Required

Strong ability to develop business and promote business relationships
Strong ability to motivate staff and promote teamwork
Excellent organization, coordination, management and leadership skills
Demonstrated experience with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting in Alaska and or western states, including regulatory coordination and permit application development under CWA Sections 404 and 401 of the Clean Water Act, NEPA, APDES, and State of Alaska
Technical specialization and expertise in the field(s) of wetland science, botany, wildlife biology, soil science, or related field(s)
Demonstrated positive reputation and relationships with environmental regulators
Understanding of policies and procedures for health and safety, including client-specific training (as required)
Professional Wetland Scientist or ability to become a PWS competent in aquatic resource delineation and functional assessments
Good driving record and valid driver's license required
Willingness to travel and conduct field work in potentially remote areas for extended periods (up to 50% of the time in summer) including overnight travel is expected for this position. Field work may include exposure to inclement weather
Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs
Prior to employment, this position may require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical and/or drug screen
Bachelor's degree in an environmental discipline (biology, ecology, natural resources, soil science or related natural resources field) with demonstrated experience with biological surveys in the region
Experience of 10-15 years is desired, with experience leading field teams in natural resource inventories and surveys
Comfortable with computers and Trimble hand-held GPS units or other similar GPS based survey equipment
Technical writing skills are necessary for this position
