NCNG Public Affairs Intern (Summer 2026)

The N.C. Department of Information Technology is seeking a Summer Intern for the Public Affairs Office at the North Carolina National Guard. This part-time internship will involve developing stories, gathering news, and improving media relations, providing a valuable opportunity for college students or recent graduates in the field of public relations.

Responsibilities

Developing and writing stories highlighting NCNG soldiers and airmen
Gathering good news stories across the North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) in both visual and written form
Producing products to be used on NCNG social media sites
Working closely with social media manager to improve data mining process
Working closely with the NCNG Public Affairs Office (PAO) administrative assistant to improve daily task tracker
Working with the NCNG Visual Information Office on gathering and recording product to include photos and video for short and long range video production products
Working with the media manager to improve media relations between NCNG and different NC media outlets
Working with the Community Relations Officer to assist with two public relations events

Required

Must be currently enrolled in college or a recent college graduate
Must be pursuing a degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, English or a related field
A college transcript is required to determine eligibility
The selected intern will be required to provide a letter of recommendation from a professional reference or academic advisor/professor before being hired
Students are expected to possess strong verbal and written communication skills
Skills using Microsoft products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and/or Outlook
Interns must submit to a background check and fingerprinting or consent to agency onboarding requirements
Degrees and transcripts must be achieved from an appropriately accredited college or university
Applicants who earned college credit hours but did not complete a degree program must attach an unofficial transcript to receive credit for education
International degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting
Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a DD-214 Form
Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach a NGB 23A or DD256/NGB 22
