Accountant III
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) works to build on strengths of families and communities to keep children and vulnerable adults safe. The Accountant III performs moderately complex accounting work by reviewing and processing incoming invoices for payment and posting them to the correct accounts, while also serving as a subject matter expert in financial operations.

Responsibilities
Adheres to voucher processes and timelines, quality controls, including budget checking/voucher approval and the coordination of vouchers corrections/adjustments. Reviews, reconciles, and processes agency records and payments in a timely manner ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable state law and oversight agencies’ rules and regulations. Responsible for data entry, tracking, and updating accounting and invoice systems. Ensures agency compliance state requirements, policies, and procedures in financial areas
Support general email box duties and coordinates with agency staff to ensure payment coding information is complete, required information supports accurate payments, and information regarding payment inquiries. Responsible for researching and responding to agency and vendor inquiries in a timely manner by answering questions, addressing issues, verifying information, and resolving problems or complaints
Maintain, develops, and runs queries for extraction of accounting information from agency tracking system, CAPPS Financials, and USAS and assign processing errors to staff for resolution and ensuring timely processing of expenditures
Acts as a subject matter expert. Perform system testing. Trains and assists staff with the use of CAPPS Financials, USAS, etc
Performs related work as assigned
Qualification
Required
Experience in accounting, finance, cash handling, or related fields
Experience using a point-of-sale system, automated accounting system, or customer database system
Experienced user of MS office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
Excellent written communications as observed by detail and completeness of information provided on the State job application
Graduated from High School or equivalent
