Responsibilities

Provide input from the institutional communications and marketing perspective to help form policies and formulate the strategic plans
Provide leadership in the development and implementation of a long-range strategic communications and integrated marketing plan in accordance with the mission and goals of the institution
Communicate key messages about the College to external constituencies including, but not limited to, friends, and donors, alumni foundations, The United Methodist Church, and the community at large
Monitor and ensure message consistency throughout the College
Participate in concept and creative development of key Institutional Advancement and Office of Admissions materials to ensure consistency of message and adherence to the College’s mission and goals
Provide creative graphic assistance and effective marketing and communication materials and strategies to other departments as requested and as time is available
Serve as primary spokesperson to the media and to the community and develop and disseminate news releases on a weekly basis
Develop and, as necessary, implement a crisis communication plan
Promote all facets of the College through news releases and publicity generating events
Maintain current mailing lists of media representatives and update mailing lists with media contact preferences: mail, fax, or e-mail
Publish a weekly campus newsletter throughout the academic year that will supply information about campus activities for all of the College’s publics
Create goodwill between area, regional and national news media and invite coverage of the College events and its programs
Assist in the development of fundraising solicitations, e-communications and other marketing strategies for distribution to alumni, parents and friends of the College
Provide support to alumni activities by promoting and publicizing alumni events
Photograph notable campus events for publicity purposes
Serve as managing editor of the alumni organ, 'The Wiley Reporter'
Assist with ensuring that the 'brand' image of Wiley College is identified and refined, using market research and in consultation with the President and Cabinet, and ensure that those brand elements are translated accurately and effectively into College communications
Ensure that the 'brand' messaging and graphic identity of Wiley College is consistent in all College publications and on the web-site
Seek to discover stories to tell about Wiley College’s faculty and students
Develop and execute individual marketing plans for College-sponsored programs, such as Summer Sessions and the Upward Bound program, as time is available
Assist with special projects as delineated by the President’s office
Perform other related duties as assigned

Required

A bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, or a related field is required
Must have three to five years of experience in public relations
Must possess practical knowledge of advertising, public affairs, journalism, creative and technical writing, and graphic production
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
Must be proficient in the use of various computer applications and software programs

Preferred

A master's degree is preferred
Some marketing experience is a plus
