Income Tax Specialist
The South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) is dedicated to funding a better state for its citizens. As an Income Tax Specialist, you will ensure compliance with tax laws by reviewing and auditing tax returns, communicating with taxpayers, and recommending process improvements.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Reviewing and auditing tax returns and making any adjustments needed to ensure taxpayer compliance with federal and state tax laws
Communicating with taxpayers to explain return adjustments
Staying up to date on tax law changes and on knowledge of our internal tax systems
Making recommendations to improve existing processes
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses (Transcripts required. Attach to application or email to employment@dor.sc.gov.) OR
An associate's degree and experience in accounting, finance, insurance, or tax preparation/analysis
Relevant experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis with an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources (DSHR)
Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning
Preferred
Bachelor's degree with multiple accounting hours
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation/analysis
Associate's degree and three years of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation/analysis
Twelve semester hours in accounting, audit, or other business-related subjects
Basic knowledge of SC tax laws and forms and on-line computer systems
