Sr. Controls Engineer

The Senior HVDC Control System Engineer will drive business strategy by developing HVDC converter models and advanced controls, leading R&D programs, and ensuring solutions are technically appropriate for next generation products.

Responsibilities
Lead diverse teams as well contribute individually at a senior level in the development and application of advanced technology solutions to GE Vernova products and services using modeling, advanced controls
Validate performance of developed solutions through both real-time and offline simulations and application on target systems
Document technology and results through patent applications, technical reports, and publications
Ensure that solutions adopted are both technically appropriate and that GE Vernova has freedom to utilize these solutions
Transfer technology to engineering teams in GE Vernova to be included in next generation products and services
Stay current with advances in system technologies to seek out new ideas and applications
Work in a team environment with colleagues across GE Vernova including the Advanced Research Center and partners from industry, academia, and government agencies
Qualification
Required
Doctorate degree in an Engineering field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in design, development and validation of advanced control of power electronic converter equipment or a Master's degree in an Engineering field with a minimum of 10 years of experience in design, development and validation of advanced control of power electronic converter equipment
3 to 5 years experience with advanced controllers, optimization, estimation, or detection algorithms
3 to 5 years experience in algorithm development and software implementation for complex physical systems (e.g., HVDC converter, converters integrating renewable resources into the AC transmission grid, converter in industrial applications, transportation systems, etc s)
Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time, including international, and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies
Preferred
Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and C, C++, or Python. Knowledge of PSCAD would be an advantage
Strong background in power electronics
Deep understanding of Voltage-Sourced Converter (VSC) HVDC schemes. Some knowledge of LCC (Line Commutated Converter) would also be advantageous
Experience with real-time implementation of system solutions in a variety of hardware platforms including development of hardware-in-the-loop simulation platforms for control performance validation
Experience developing controls solutions for industrial and AC transmission grid applications
Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques and the application of those in a controller context
Experience developing cyber-security algorithms
Exposure to industrial control hardware programming and industrial control software development
Proficiency in source code management through git/github
Experience with application for government funding and project proposal writing including tendering document for commercial offers
Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership
Experience interacting with customers and regulatory stakeholders (e.g. TSO's, developers, government bodies)
Experience with program management, which includes setting up schedules, milestones, technical reviews, tracking funding, etc
Demonstrated ability to take an innovative idea from a concept to a product
