College Intern - Rail Vehicle Maintenance

The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County is offering a professional learning experience for undergraduate or graduate students in the field of Rail Vehicle Maintenance. The intern will assist in various maintenance operations and contribute to departmental goals while gaining practical work experience related to their field of study.

Responsibilities

Assignments may include responsibilities in one or more of the following areas:
Assists the Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) Project Manager organize and execute maintenance vehicle repair schedules and work orders
Assist the Project Manager in organizing and carrying out the day-to-day rail maintenance operations
Tracks the receipt and implementation of new parts for rail vehicles
Assists LRV Management in the organization of vehicle repair campaigns and work instructions for maintenance personnel
Learns the procedures and processes of Light Rail Vehicle Maintenance at METRO
Contributes to departmental goals and objectives
Suggests solutions to business issues and challenges
Attends and participates in meetings
Assists in functional and/or business analytics
Gathers and scrubs data for analysis and reports
Assists with client consulting and support
Assists with writing grants, procedures guide, presentations, training materials, etc
Contributes to a team-oriented atmosphere
Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers
Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP)
Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents
Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required

Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or a recent graduate (within 1 year). Degree program relative to intern assignments, such as Engineering, Business Management, Information Technology, or related degree
Currently enrolled in an accredited education institution and successfully completed 24 undergraduate credit hours
GPA of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale
Degree program relative to intern assignment, such as Engineering, Business Management, etc
Knowledge of PC's and related software, such as MS Office
