Natural Resources Intern
City of Seattle is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities, recognized for its commitment to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. The Natural Resources intern will assist in implementing botanical and wildlife tasks for the Skagit River and Boundary Hydroelectric projects, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while contributing to environmental goals.

Responsibilities
The intern will work on land management and habitat restoration projects for the Skagit River Hydroelectric Project in western Washington and the Boundary Hydroelectric Project in eastern Washington as well as avian protection program implementation at the projects and in the City of Seattle
Each year, City Light is required to complete various activities to protect or enhance botanical, wildlife, and fish resources at each project, and report on the progress to federal and state agencies in meetings and annual reports
The intern work products will be integrated into various reports and presentations for internal and external audiences throughout the internship
Examples of deliverables may include:
Tabular data summary of avian protection data
Field sampling of forested and non-forested upland, riparian, and wetland vegetation communities
Supporting with wetland delineations and permitting
GIS mapping and analysis using field and remote sensing data
Reports to summarize data collection, site conditions, and management effectiveness monitoring
Qualification
Required
Enrolled in an accredited certificate, 2-year or 4-year undergraduate educational program during their internship
Undergraduate students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship
Must hold a current valid state issued driver's license from any US state to be verified prior to start date
Interns must have a Washington State address and live in Washington State at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment
Preferred
Enrolled in an academic program with focus on Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Environmental Horticulture, Forestry, Botany, or related field
Experience with Global Positioning System (GPS) technology and GIS software
Skills in identifying Pacific Northwest plants, weeds, fish, and wildlife
Data management skills
Technical writing skills
Good communication skills
