Aquatic Resources and Climate Change Research Intern

Responsibilities
Supporting the South Fork Tolt and Skagit River Research, Monitoring, and Compliance Programs, including the following:
Acquiring and processing data, as well as conducting statistical analysis
Summarizing data, including the preparation of reports, tables, and graphs
Organizing and cataloging data
Implementing various data management tasks using MS Excel and other data management and analysis software
Assisting in fieldwork to gather fish and water quality data, which will require walking in the field in sometimes difficult terrain and in all types of weather
Compiling and organizing biological sample collections for genetic and other analyses
Collecting, managing, and analyzing climate-related data and spatial data to assess trends, impacts, and performance
Conducting literature reviews and developing study designs for climate-related impacts and adaptation and mitigation strategies
Supporting tools, training, and policies related to climate change awareness and integration into City Light business operations and practices
Preparing reports and white papers on climate-related topics
Qualification
Required
Enrolled in an accredited graduate program during their internship
Graduate students will need to maintain a 3.0 GPA or above throughout the internship
Preferred
Enrolled in an academic program with focus on environmental science and/or natural resources
Possess strong problem-solving skills; intermediate or advanced experience working with MS Excel and/or other databases
Familiarity with ArcGIS software gained through college course or equivalent experience
The ability to gather, summarize, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data
Familiarity with 'R' or Python coding
Experience reviewing scientific literature and summarizing scientific articles
Strong written and oral communication skills
Experience and comfort working outside in inclement weather as well as on small boats
Fish and aquatic vertebrate identification skills
