Sr. Specialist, Mechanical Engineering

Intelligent Manufacturing Solutions (IMS) is a company focused on developing advanced laser range finders and laser designators for military applications. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design, layout, testing, and evaluation of these systems, working both independently and collaboratively with other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Execute verification testing as defined by the mechanical speciation and test plan
Generates and /or process engineering change orders (ECN’s) as required
Develop reviews and approves engineering documentation, including product specification, drawings, assembly procedures and test plans
Perform, guide or review various types of engineering analyses to characterize and validate proposed designs
Support the assembly, integration and test of products or prototypes
Perform and document structural and analysis utilizing classical techniques and finite element analysis to establish the validity of proposed designs. Perform modal shock and vibration analysis
Conducts thermal analysis, flow analysis, and vibration analysis
Work with other mechanical engineers to optimize designs for structural and thermal performance
Support the creation of technical performance specifications and assist Purchasing Dept. with procurement of items as necessary
Analyzes mechanical requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints
Investigate solutions to product or process problems
Adhere to budget and schedule commitments
Prepare and review documentation in accordance with contract requirements and/or internal standards
Perform estimates for manpower and other resources factors for analysis-related tasks
Ensure quality through adherence to the Quality Systems Manual, applicable Standard Work Instructions and other standards invoked internally or contractually
Works with other engineers, technicians, manufacturing and quality engineers in a team environment
Work is performed within set boundaries with minimal direct supervision
Follows strategic direction set by Program and functional leadership
Travel (10 - 20%) as required to meet critical schedule milestones

Required

U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements
Ability to obtain and maintain US security clearance
Ability to work additional hours to meet customer and schedule requirements
Must be able to communicate effectively with a wide array of professional levels and functions
Experience with opto-mechanical designs
Experience with GD&T application and interpretation
Proficiency with hands-on engineering support of manufacturing
Ability to perform classical hand calculations and interpret convergence data to validate finite element analysis results
Must be capable of devising solutions to engineering problems both independently and by soliciting input from other technical subject matter experts across the organization
Experience transitioning designs from prototype to production, including support for Low-Rate Initial Production
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with AutoCAD, LabVIEW and Xilinx
Ability to prepare or lead the preparation of part lists
Ability to work in a small organization with a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of engineering change document preparation and impact assessments
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 6 years or Graduate Degree and minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience
6+ years of mechanical engineering experience with concentration in EO, opto-mechanical and or laser focus in the defense industry
6+ years recent experience with SolidWorks
4+ years' experience writing technical documentation and developing analysis reports
4+ years' experience with CAD software
4+ years' experience with GD&T and drawing standards
4+ years' experience with manufacturing methods and design for manufacturability
