Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Physician
The Equal Justice Initiative is a nonprofit organization based in Montgomery, Alabama, committed to ending mass incarceration and promoting human rights. They are seeking an Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Physician to provide transitional primary care and comprehensive health services to formerly incarcerated individuals and other vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities
Provide transitional primary care, including diagnosis and treatment of common chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, kidney disease, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder
Create a safe and dignified space for patients who have traditionally lacked access to care, have significant mistrust of medical providers, and may have suffered medical neglect while incarcerated
Conduct comprehensive health screenings and clinical assessments across various community settings aboard a mobile health unit
Perform screening and initial evaluation of infectious diseases, such as HIV and hepatitis C. Preference for candidates who are willing to prescribe direct-acting antiviral treatment for hepatitis C after undergoing training and with support from clinicians with experience
Conduct substance use screening and evaluation. Preference for candidates who are willing to prescribe medication-assisted treatment where appropriate. Provide counseling on medication management and work with an interdisciplinary team to address patient social needs where possible
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to creatively address structural determinants of health through mobile outreach, home visits, and social support. EJI Health’s interdisciplinary team includes other providers, registered nurses, administrative staff, and social work and legal support from EJI
Qualification
Required
Medical Degree (Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy) from an accredited university (U.S. accredited or equivalent)
Completion of an accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
Board Certified/Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
Ability to obtain licensure to practice medicine in Alabama
Ability to obtain Alabama Controlled Substances Certificate (ACSC) and Alabama DEA registration
Excellent communication, bedside manner, and organizational skills
Preferred
Experience working in rural, underserved, and/or resource limited settings preferred
