Policy & Innovation Intern

Harris County is offering a 9-week paid summer internship through the P4FIP program for students interested in public service. Interns will assist the Policy & Innovation team in developing and implementing policies, conducting data analysis, and supporting public-private partnerships while gaining hands-on experience in a professional environment.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Assist Policy & Innovation team to develop, support and implement evidence-based policies and programs from ideation to implementation to improve County systems and services
Perform analysis of relevant data, history, and alternative policy and partnership solutions for a variety of issues to provide recommendations across a range of policy portfolios
Draft policy memos for Commissioners Court that outline the implications of proposed policy changes for County operations. Brief Commissioner Briones on those topics in advance of Commissioners Court
Provide support in the development of briefing materials and presentations to be presented to a wide range of audiences and stakeholders
Support Policy & Innovation in researching, prioritizing, and developing public-private partnerships
Assist in data collection and analysis of program outputs and outcomes to evaluate impact of Innovative Programming in the community
Support the creation and submission of grants aligned with the precinct’s policy priorities

Required

Applicants must provide a 1-page Cover Letter and attach a Resume
Students working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college or university
Minimum GPA of 3.0
Proficiency in Microsoft software applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Share Point
Ability to perform highly skilled research and analysis
Ability to work in and facilitate cross-functional teams
Excellent communication skills
Effective time management and prioritization with experience meeting multiple tight deadlines and balancing numerous projects in a fast-paced and changing environment

Preferred

Knowledge of local, state and federal government operations including legislation, regulatory guidance, budget and policy development is not required but preferred
Resident of Harris County Precinct 4
