Director of Finance & Budget

The Office of Abbey Ajayi, Broward County Tax Collector is committed to fostering community trust through fair and efficient tax collection. The Director of Finance & Budget will oversee financial planning, manage financial reporting processes, and ensure operational compliance with relevant regulations, while also leading financial analyses and budget management.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Serve as the principal financial advisor to the Tax Collector, providing data-driven guidance on fiscal policy, long-range financial planning, and statutory obligations unique to a constitutional office
Lead development and submission of annual operating and capital budgets in alignment with Florida statutes, county requirements, and Department of Revenue guidelines
Oversee revenue forecasting tied to tax collection cycles, tag and title volumes, and seasonal fluctuations; proactively assess financial risk and mitigation strategies
Ensure compliance with all state, county, and audit requirements, including coordination with external auditors, Inspector General inquiries, and public records requests related to financial matters
Develop internal financial controls and governance frameworks to safeguard public funds and ensure transparency, accountability, and audit readiness
Partner closely with Operations, IT, HR, and Communications to evaluate financial impacts of new initiatives, technology investments, office expansions, and service enhancements
Prepare executive-level financial briefings, dashboards, and reports for the Tax Collector, senior leadership, and governing bodies as required
Lead and mentor finance staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, integrity, continuous improvement, and public stewardship

Required

Strong financial management skills, including expertise in Financial Planning and Finance practices
Proficiency in preparing and analyzing Financial Statements and Financial Reporting
Excellent Analytical Skills and problem-solving capabilities
Experience in budget management and cash flow analysis
Exceptional organizational and leadership abilities to oversee financial teams and operations
Proficiency in financial software and tools; advanced Excel skills are preferred
Knowledge of public finance laws and regulations is highly valued
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field

Preferred

CPA or CFA designation is preferred
