Patient Financial Services Representative
NEOGOV is seeking a Patient Financial Services Representative to support the clinical business office operations. This role involves conducting financial activities related to clinical services, including determining financial eligibility, billing third-party providers, and maintaining accounts receivable data.

Responsibilities
Reviews the following day’s scheduled appointments to review insurance status for payment responsibility of patient
Interviews and assesses patients’ financial documentation for payment responsibility based on income criteria; determines amount owed at time of service from sliding scale fee schedule and/or works with patient to set up a payment plan
Collects copays and/or payments, applies to patient accounts and provides receipt; research payments applied to incorrect accounts; reconciles the cash drawer, resolves account debit and credit balance errors and monitors accounts and collects on past due amounts
Copies and scans all financial documents necessary for patient files
Updates financial information in the EHR and have the client to sign a declaration and/or payment agreement
Determines presumptive eligibility on new maternity patients
Handles calls from the public about income-based fees
Contacts insurance providers in reference to billing/payment questions
Determines eligibility for presumptive Medicaid with the Department of Social Services to track patient eligibility and maintains up-to-date patient records for insurance and/or payment responsibility
Promotes patient awareness of Health Choice Insurance, Family Planning Waiver, and clinics that offer community-based services to meet the patient’s needs that are not available through the local health department
Enters visit data per CPT/ICD-9 codes in the computer for direct billing to the patient and/or third-party provider
Prepares end of the day report of charges and fees collected per program
Prepared and mails statements on a monthly basis
Receives mail from other health care providers, disability determination office, etc. and processes information as per guidelines
Ensures that patient demographics are updated at each time of service
Ensures proper information is entered into computer for maintenance of records, reports, statistical data and for purpose of meeting all program requirements
Ensures that each superbill/encounter form is returned to the Business Office
Reconciles Lab Corp statement on a monthly basis for various programs to be charged
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Thorough knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, including modern medical office technology
Working knowledge of policies and procedures of the health department
Skill in clerical duties, filing, typing, and helping the general public
Skill in providing excellent customer service
Ability to demonstrate excellent organizational skills and multi-task with frequent interruptions
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
Ability to effectively use a multi-line phone system and software applications such as electronic medical records, spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, and email
Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with coworkers, patients, outside agencies, and the general public
Ability to demonstrate sound judgment, integrity, resourcefulness, accuracy, thoroughness and the physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
