Policy Consultant

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest agencies in the state, responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of North Carolinians. The Policy Consultant will research, write, and disseminate child welfare policy information regarding child protective services, while also drafting responses to media requests and developing forms.

Research, write, and disseminate child welfare policy information regarding child protective services
Draft written responses to media requests
Develop forms
Work as a team member for implementation of any initiative or project that requires a policy change in any matters related to the assigned subject matter

Required

Master's degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience
Bachelor's degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of related experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred

Documented child welfare experience and ability to demonstrate working knowledge of child welfare programs, concepts, practice, policies, laws, and rules related to child protective services; intake and assessments, in-home services
Proven experience in ability to research, analyze and interpret Federal and State laws and formulate them into policies related to child welfare
Documented experience in technical writing to complete formal written documents and develop forms for a range of audiences, that are accurate, detailed and grammatically correct
Proven experience in implementing child welfare-related policies or procedures and monitoring those implemented policies and procedures for compliance to get the intended results
Demonstrate excellent communications skills, both written and verbal to a wide range of professional stakeholders and public
