Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Responsibilities

Reviews, updates and implements EHS policies, programs and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations
Maintains all EHS activity files and records and acts as the Custodian of Records for all EHS documents
Interacts with all outside regulatory agencies for audits and inspections; secures all necessary permits
Evaluates wastewater treatment process daily and authenticates the process checklist
Negotiates with vendors for pricing of services
Generates and maintains the SDS for all hazardous materials
Responsible for all local agency compliance as follows:
OC CUPA
Handles all paperwork for annual permit renewal
Creates records of all discharged materials in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations
Oversees the semi-annual Fire Department inspection and the implementation of any required action items
Monitors all chemical inventory lists in the designated chemical storage areas and reviews CERS for hazardous materials; generates CERS and maintains the records for any new materials
Completes REACH Questionnaire Forms per customer's requirement
Submits the annual closure plan
SC AQMD
Handles all paperwork for the annual permit renewal
Submits the quarterly report
Monitors all pertinent regulations on a periodic basis and implements changes as required
Participates in the annual AQMD training
OC Sanitation District
Collects data and completes self-monitoring reports on a monthly basis for the OCSD Class 1 permit; handles all paperwork to renew the annual permit
Submits monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports per the District's schedule
Completes the stormwater sampling inspections after each rain event or at least twice a year utilizing the service vendor; prepares and submits inspection reports and maintains all records
OSHA
Submits annual OSHA injury log report
Responsible for all federal and state OSHA compliance
Other
Submits reports to the BOE as required
Schedules and conducts all safety trainings including forklift training and new hire safety orientation
Reviews, updates, and develops training materials including demonstration kits and presentation materials
Identifies the training requirement for all the process areas; creates an annual training plan and a training tracking sheet
Develops and maintains all safety policies, programs and procedures (SOP)
Conducts daily walkthrough safety inspections to ensure compliance of Company safety policies and procedures; documents findings and implements all necessary action items
Conducts formal semi-annual onsite safety inspection audit; implements all necessary action items and maintains all records
Conducts annual emergency drills and maintains all records
Conducts monthly safety committee meetings; communicates with managers and team leaders about safety issues; suggests and implements any necessary changes
Checks and refills first aid kits every two weeks and orders supplies every month
Communicates regularly with Safety Liaisons in each process areas; solicits feedback for improvements or changes; implements all action items as needed
Handles all work related injuries and takes injured worker to the designated clinic or hospital
Conducts and documents all accident, injury and incident investigations; prepares root cause analysis; determines and implements corrective action items as needed
Maintains and renews all required EHS related certifications
Performs all other duties as needed

Required

Must have working knowledge of EHS related local, state and federal laws and regulations including but not limited to the following agencies: OSHA, EPA, DTSC, SCAQMD, OCSD, RWQCB, OC CUPA, OCFA and REACH
Experience and knowledge of hazardous materials and chemicals
Knowledge of safety processes and procedures including employee training, documentation, first aid kit items and protective equipment
Forklift operation required
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to oversee multiple projects
High level of flexibility and adaptability to changing requirements and priorities
Proficient in Microsoft Office
High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 3 years (preferably 5 years) of EHS related experience in manufacturing environment
Minimum of 3 years of wastewater treatment experience
Must be HAZOPER and OSHA certified

Preferred

Forklift trainer certification preferred
First aid and CPR certification is a plus
