Environmental Law Attorney ( Albany, Buffalo, Ithaca, Rochester, Syracuse, Long Island , White Plain
NPAworldwide is seeking an Environmental Law Attorney to provide expert legal advice on federal and state environmental regulations. The role involves representing clients in litigation and regulatory compliance, managing complex real estate transactions, and collaborating with various stakeholders on environmental risk assessment.

Responsibilities
Advise clients on federal and state environmental regulations, including CERCLA, RCRA, CAA, NEPA, SEQRA, and related statutes
Represent clients in environmental litigation, permitting, and regulatory compliance matters
Structure, negotiate, and close complex commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, leasing, and development projects
Lead environmental due diligence for M&A, project finance, and large-scale development transactions
Draft and negotiate environmental provisions in purchase agreements, financing documents, and development contracts
Manage permitting processes involving air, water, wetlands, offshore infrastructure, and utilities
Support remediation and Brownfields redevelopment and risk mitigation strategies for contaminated sites
Collaborate with developers, sponsors, lenders, consultants, and internal legal teams to assess environmental risk and deal bankability
Review and analyze Phase I & Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and other third-party technical reports
Provide strategic counsel on NYC Local Law 97, CLCPA, carbon markets, CCS projects, and energy transition initiatives
Work cross-functionally with real estate, land use, energy, and infrastructure practice groups
Qualification
Required
Minimum 8+ years of U.S. environmental law experience
Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
Admitted to the New York State Bar; Connecticut or Massachusetts admission (or ability to waive in) preferred
Strong experience with environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and transactional environmental matters
Demonstrated exposure to energy, infrastructure, or large-scale real estate development projects
Proven ability to manage complex matters involving multiple stakeholders and regulatory agencies
Ability to meet a minimum of 1,800 billable hours annually
Preferred
Connecticut or Massachusetts admission (or ability to waive in) preferred
Portable book of business is a plus but not required
