Chesterfield County's Department of Mental Health Support Services provides essential mental health and developmental disabilities services. The intern will engage in substance misuse prevention initiatives, support curriculum development, and assist in community outreach efforts.

Responsibilities

Participate in substance misuse prevention initiatives across the socio-ecological model

Conduct environmental scans and provide merchant education to tobacco retailers

Support curriculum development

Assist in design of social media campaigns

Share information at community events

Perform other work as required

Required

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student with a minimum grade point average of at least 2.8

Ability to participate in the full 10-week program

Exhibit a commitment to public service

Genuine interest in learning about public administration

Pre-employment drug testing required

FBI criminal background check required

Education/degree verification required

Strong oral communication skills

Strong data entry skills

Comfort talking about substance use and mental health related topics

General knowledge about youth and adolescent development and substance misuse trends

Must maintain personal mobile technology as a condition of employment

Current valid driver's license and good driving record required

Driving record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months

Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview

Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date
