2026 Summer Intern - Sports, Visitation and Entertainment (Sports Tourism)

Responsibilities

Fulfill the Sports, Visitation and Entertainment Department’s strategic priority of making Chesterfield County a “national leader” in customer service and to enhance the overall client and visitor experience
Work closely with the Assistant Director and Event Services Specialist to help carry out the logistics needed for all sports events including pre-event planning, scheduling, permitting vendors and equipment/resources
Perform other work as required

Required

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.8
Ability to participate in the full 10-week program
Exhibit a commitment to public service
Genuine interest in learning about public administration
Pre-employment drug testing required
FBI criminal background check required
Education/degree verification required
Strong written and communication skills
Ability to draft clear and concise emails for internal staff and external event operators
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to manage deadlines and handle multiple tasks at once
Willingness to learn new tools and processes that are needed to host successful events
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends as needed
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required
Driving record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months
Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview
Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date

Preferred

Coursework or prior exposure to sports, tourism, and events is helpful but not required
