Chesterfield County's Transportation Department is seeking a summer intern to gain hands-on experience in transportation projects. Interns will manage projects, review roadway plans, and support transportation planning studies while collaborating with county leaders and peers.

Responsibilities

Managing projects and reviewing roadway plans

Joining construction progress meetings and visiting active sites

Evaluating commercial and residential site plans

Supporting transportation planning studies and traffic impact analyses

Preparing state and federal funding applications

Using GIS tools to analyze and visualize data

Learning about regional collaboration by attending MPO/TPO meetings

Contributing to a countywide microtransit study

Participating in Road Safety Audits

Conducting field reviews of road conditions

Perform other work as required

Qualification

Civil EngineeringTransportation PlanningGIS toolsMicrosoft Office SuiteCommunication skills

Required

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.8

Ability to participate in the full 10-week program

Exhibit a commitment to public service

Genuine interest in learning about public administration

Pre-employment drug testing required

FBI criminal background check required

Education/degree verification required

Background in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, and/or Transportation Planning

Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Good written and verbal communication skills

Current valid driver's license and good driving record required

Work outside the office will be required
