Caltrans District 3 is seeking a Crime Analyst I to join the Bureau of Firearms. The role involves analyzing firearms eligibility statuses and processing related information while providing support to law enforcement and applicants.

Responsibilities

Analyze the firearms and ammunition eligibility status of applicants by utilizing criminal offenders record information and other firearms and ammunition eligibility related records using multiple systems

Process incoming firearm reports

Respond to requests and issues from firearms applicants, law enforcement, criminal justice agencies, and other departments

Receive, review, identify, and process applicant and firearm information

Provide oral and written correspondence to applicants

Query various databases and requesting and reviewing files

Contact state and federal criminal justice agencies, and firearms and ammunition dealers, to obtain and/or clarify information related to various firearm and/or ammunition issues or laws

Gain a thorough knowledge and understanding of California statutory codes, the criminal justice system, and regulations governing eligibility to purchase or possess firearms and/or ammunition in California
