Part Time Utility Clerk/Customer Service Representative

Santa Clara City is seeking a part-time Utility Clerk/Customer Service Representative to perform a variety of clerical, secretarial, and administrative duties. The role involves answering phones, assisting the public, cashiering, and managing utility accounts.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Responsible for the set-up, transfer, etc. of utility accounts and any other area within utilities where support or back-up is needed
Responsible for processing and submitting delinquent accounts to collections
Answers central telephone system
Receives the public and answers questions; responds to inquiries from employees, citizens, and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate persons
Prepares and monitors work orders
Is familiar with City codes and policies and can assist the public with compliance questions or refer to appropriate personnel
Receives, stamps, and distributes incoming mail, processes outgoing mail
Composes, types, and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, and completeness
Inputs data to standard office and department forms; makes simple postings to accounts; compiles data for various reports
Schedules appointments and performs other administrative and clerical duties
Performs customer service and cash receipting of utility payments and various other payments; receives incoming telephone calls, takes messages and routes call to appropriate personnel; provides general assistance to walk-in public
Operates a vehicle to run errands
Performs related duties as required

Required

Graduation from high school or GED with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, and filing
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible related experience
Considerable knowledge of computers and word processing and spreadsheet related software
Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
Knowledge of accounting practices and principles
Interpersonal communication skills and telephone etiquette
Knowledge of public relations
Knowledge of state and city codes and policies
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to operate various types of office equipment such as adding machine, fax machine, computer, etc
Ability to work under time pressures in meeting deadlines
Ability to operate reports and records, charts and graphs
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, the public, and subordinates
Must be able to demonstrate keyboard skills with accuracy
Valid Utah driver's license
Must pass random drug tests
