Responsibilities
Act as the technical authority for RFQs, proposals, and pre-sale engineering activities involving:
Low Voltage (≤600V) systems
Medium Voltage (5kV–38kV) systems
Mission-critical and data center power infrastructure, including:
PDUs, RPPs, STS
Integrated power systems
SCADA and monitoring integrations
Interpret customer specifications, narratives, and single-line diagrams to assess:
Technical feasibility (capability, risk, and reward)
Code and standards compliance
Scope clarity, assumptions, and exclusions
Develop system-level pre-sale designs, including:
Single-line diagrams
Conceptual schematics
Equipment layouts and footprints
Validate compliance with NEC, UL, IEEE, and applicable customer or utility standards prior to quotation
Generate high-confidence pre-sale Bills of Material (BOMs) identifying major cost and lead-time drivers
Support Sales Engineering during technical discussions by explaining:
Protection and coordination philosophies
Redundancy and transfer schemes
Monitoring, metering, and control architectures
Clearly define scope inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and clarifications to prevent scope creep and downstream disputes
Identify technical and commercial risk early and escalate deviations from approved system architectures when required
Provide select electrical design support for:
First-of-kind or non-standard systems
High-risk or complex configurations
Pilot builds and new architectures
Produce or review:
Electrical schematics
Wiring and interconnection diagrams
Work closely with Manufacturing to:
Clarify design intent
Support troubleshooting during assembly
Ensure proposal commitments align with shop-floor reality
Capture lessons learned and provide structured feedback to support:
Component standardization
Modularization
Future catalog development
Qualification

Minimum - bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electromechanical engineering, with 5+ years of systems or application engineering experience
OR 10–15+ years of equivalent professional experience with progressive responsibility in electrical power distribution systems with large OEM's
Strong understanding of: Low Voltage and Medium Voltage power distribution architectures, Breaker selection, protection schemes, and coordination philosophy, Design-for-manufacture principles
Working knowledge of: NEC, UL 891, UL 1558 (UL 67 / UL 1008 familiarity preferred), IEEE power distribution standards, EUSERC
Ability to independently identify: Compliant designs, Non-compliant designs, Gray areas requiring escalation
Strong ability to read and interpret: Technical schematics, One-line diagrams, System architectures
Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
Ability to translate complex engineering decisions into clear, business-aligned guidance
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD
Technical Risk Management: Identifies design conflicts, unrealistic specifications, and hidden cost drivers before quotes are released
Engineering-Driven Sales Support: Ensures Sales Engineering is aligned with approved system architectures and manufacturing reality
Cross-Functional Communicator: Bridges Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing
Speed with Discipline: Develops accurate, defensible concepts quickly without sacrificing technical integrity
Preferred
10–15+ years of experience in one or more of the following environments: Switchgear and switchboards, Power distribution equipment manufacturing, Mission-critical or data center infrastructure
Demonstrated experience in application engineering, systems engineering, or proposal engineering roles
Proven ownership of system-level decisions from proposals through manufacturing and delivery
Exposure to: Industrial automation, PLC-based control systems, VFDs, motor control, or generator paralleling
