The Senior Cost Accountant supports the cost accounting and inventory functions by performing detailed cost analysis, inventory reconciliation, and standard cost maintenance, ensuring accurate financial reporting through collaboration with various teams.

Responsibilities

Perform standard cost maintenance, product costing updates, and cost roll processes

Analyze manufacturing and distribution variances, determine root causes, and prepare clear documentation of findings for management review

Prepare inventory valuation schedules and reconcile inventory sub-ledgers to the general ledger

Support monthly cost of goods sold (COGS) analysis and gross margin reporting

Collaborate with operations and procurement teams to evaluate cost drivers related to materials, labor, and overhead, providing actionable insights

Prepare cost accounting schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audits

Support physical inventory counts, including cycle counts and annual counts, and analyze variances

Review inventory adjustments, transfers, and transactions for accuracy and proper documentation

Assist is monitoring inventory accuracy and identifying trends or recurring issues

Assess slow-moving and obsolete inventory, supporting reserve calculations and write-off recommendations in compliance with company policy

Partner with warehouse and operations teams to improve inventory controls and reduce shrink or obsolescence

Identify and recommend improvements to cost accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and data accuracy

Assist with maintaining internal controls in compliance with company policies and GAAP

Support ERP costing and reporting enhancements in collaboration with IT and operations teams

Work closely with site controllers, plant managers, and operational teams to support financial analysis needs

Provide timely and accurate cost data to support budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting

Track and report key cost-related KPIs and summarize insights for financial leadership

Contribute to cross-functional initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and optimizing costs

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA a plus

4-7 years of progressive cost accounting or financial analysis experience

Strong understanding of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting

Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Epicor, or similar) and strong Excel skills

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

High attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy and integrity
