Clinical Psychologist - Youth & Family

Fairfax County Government is seeking a Clinical Psychologist to work within their Youth and Family Division. The role involves providing psychological services to court-involved youths, conducting evaluations and assessments, and consulting with families and court professionals.

Responsibilities

Mentally and manually records patients' behavior from observation
Prepares written reports of test results which includes psychological interpretations, diagnoses, and recommendations for review by the pediatrician or clinic director
Attends staff conferences to provide and interpret psychological test data for use in the diagnosis of the patients' problems, care, and treatment
May serve as a member of a psychiatric team in the evaluation and treatment of mental illnesses, emotional and behavioral disorders
Counsels the patients' families in the areas of acceptance, the current and anticipated development of the patients, and future planning of the family units
Informs the pediatrician of unusual problems presented during test administration
May assist in health center in-service training programs and clinic public relations programs through lectures, demonstrations, or other devices of instruction or communication
As designated by the Court: administers, scores and interprets a variety of objective psychological tests (intelligence, achievements, interests, reading, and personalities) and projective techniques for diagnostic purposes in an appropriate setting for juveniles and adults
Analyzes the results of tests, interviews, and obtains social histories of the individual
Submits psychological evaluations to the Court and makes recommendations regarding the individual's risk factors, mental status, competency and level of care needed
May appear in Court to testify as requested
Conducts independent evaluations of adults and minors who have been involuntarily hospitalized under a court-issued Temporary Detention Order
Conducts comprehensive clinical evaluations, comprehensive risk assessment and written reports
Provide psychoeducation regarding treatment needs, risk assessment, and other clinical information to client and parties involved in the involuntary detention process

Required

Possession of a doctorate degree in clinical psychology from an accredited college or university
Possession of a current license to practice as a Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia
CPR/First Aid (Required within 3 months)
Knowledge of the methods, principles and practices of conducting and evaluating psychological tests and measurements
Knowledge of psychotherapy and application of treatment a variety of clinical diagnoses
Knowledge of the applicability of these tests and measurements to the clinical diagnosis of the problems of youth and adults with mental illness
Knowledge of the sources of information and current literature and research in the field of psychology
Knowledge of the fundamental types and problems of mental illness and abnormal behavior
Knowledge of, and the ability to apply the theories and principles of psychology, human growth and development, normal and abnormal personality development, learning theory, interviewing techniques, and personality, intelligence, interest and aptitude measurements
Knowledge of and the ability to apply psychological principles and methods in the diagnosis prevention, treatment and amelioration of psychological problems, emotional and/or mental conditions
Knowledge of application state laws and regulations pertaining to the involuntary treatment of adults and juveniles in Virginia
Ability to plan, organize, and conduct a psychological testing program for youth and with mental illness
Ability to plan, organize, and conduct a psychological evaluation, forensic interview, and risk assessment
Ability to make recommendations based on the tests and interpretations
Ability to establish rapport with clients and other parties involved with the criminal justice system
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other professional staff members and the general public
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer
A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter
This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies)
Licensed providers may not “opt out” of being a Medicare provider

Preferred

Current certification as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP)
Experience working with children and adolescents
Experience providing youth psychological evaluations, competency to stand trial evaluations, and mental health assessments to courts for court-involved youth and their families

Benefits

A foreign language skills stipend of up to $1560/year (full-time) may be given for qualified bi-lingual employees.
If approved, the licensure supervisors will receive a stipend of $1,500 paid out biweekly over a 12-month period whether for one or more Department of Health licensure candidates.
Reimbursement for job related licenses and/or certifications once per year.
