ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR

Council on Aging of Volusia County is seeking an Activities Coordinator to execute senior activities and programs. The role involves facilitating activities, coordinating events, and ensuring member engagement for the senior population.

Responsibilities

Facilitate and coordinate activities, trips, special events and educational programs for the senior population with emphasis on health and well-being at the assigned location, while ensuring member participation
Coordinate and supervise the use of all recreation equipment, supplies and materials
Manage all non-client administrative functions of operating the assigned location, to include clerical duties as necessary
Responsible for meeting annual goals set for the assigned location, financial, recreational, donation collection, and memberships; including maintaining a membership database
Establish cooperative working relationships and assist in developing, implementing and/or participating in activities
Train and oversee volunteers in various capacities
Order materials and supplies as needed for the assigned location with approval based on annual budget
Develop relationships with the core community to integrate seniors into COA and community special events
Responsible for assisting with setup and clean-up of the site based on the specific activities being held
Responsible for providing snacks and beverages for members during activities, and when requested
Maintain safe food handling and sanitation as established by 64E-11 of the Florida Statutes
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Candidates must be bilingual; fluent in English and Spanish
High school diploma or general education degree and one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly
Must possess and maintain ServSafe certification
Demonstrated experience in event and activities coordination
Demonstrated creative/technical knowledge and expertise with a variety of communication media including newsletters, advertisements, direct mail, websites, social networking, and other avenues as recommended
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with colleagues throughout COA, other constituents and the public
Ability to remain calm and composed when dealing with stressed or upset clients
Ability to work effectively and patiently with clients
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with all levels of constituents
Ability to represent COA professionally with integrity, character and professional drive
Prioritize and perform duties with time pressures and frequent interruptions
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
Ability to utilize general office equipment and other necessary equipment, including personal computer and various software packages

Preferred

Knowledge on the process of aging and available community resources are a plus
