Responsibilities

Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work
Develop, oversee and execute field safety policies, standards and practices to ensure compliance
Identify best industry practices and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices
Oversee the execution of policy, programs, and priorities for ensuring safe work practices in contracted services throughout the agency's service area
Participate with senior staff personnel in reviewing and evaluating new or proposed policies, procedures, and regulations or prototype equipment and advise on implementation
Represent the agency and the safety organization in conferences and meetings with other agencies, state and local authorities, private industry, and public groups in efforts to obtain all viewpoints regarding proposed programs or program changes and to assure cooperative action by all parties involved

This position requires a valid driver's license as a condition of employment
May require up to 30% travel per year throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana
First time supervisors will be required to serve a 1 year probationary period
May be required to serve as Contracting Officers Representative for BPA grants and agreements; this duty includes additional training and certification
The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion related to frequent inspections and surveys requiring considerable standing, walking, climbing, bending, crouching, stretching, reaching or similar movements
Occasionally, there may be a need to lift and carry moderately heavy objects
The work may require some degree of agility and dexterity
The work involves regular and recurrent exposure to hazards, unpleasantness, and discomforts such as moving machine parts, shielded radiation sources, irritant chemicals, acid fumes, physical stresses, high noise levels, adverse weather conditions, lead, asbestos and rugged terrain
Protective equipment and clothing may be needed, including hardhat, metatarsal shoes, earmuffs or plugs, goggles, respirators and gloves
The incumbent must achieve and maintain their permitted access to BPA energized facilities
A qualified candidate's resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-13, in the Federal service
Specialized experience for this position is defined as 1) directing and coordinating the administration of occupational safety and health programs; 2) developing and executing field safety policies, standards and practices to ensure compliance; and 3) evaluating organizational programs for compliance with occupational safety and health requirements (i.e. laws, regulations, policies, etc.)
