Responsibilities
Oversees all aspects of academic personnel administration for UCLA Extension instructors and related classifications
Ensures compliance with UC and UCLA Academic Personnel Policies (APM and CALL)
Manages recruitment and contract processes
Partners with campus stakeholders to maintain equitable and inclusive practices
Serves as a strategic advisor on policy interpretation, compensation structures, and operational enhancements while fostering instructional excellence and professional development
Qualification
Required
5 years Minimum of progression and experience in human resources within higher education administration, with particular relevant experience in academic personnel
Thorough knowledge of and / or ability to apply / interpret UC systemwide and UCLA campus Academic Personnel policies, practices, and relevant federal, state, & local laws that govern academic HR at the University.Knowledge of grievance procedures and progressive discipline frameworks specific to instructional staff. Collaborates effectively with APO, Legal, Title IX/EEO, union representatives, and HR personnel
Knowledge of trends in academia, especially in areas of academic planning, human resource management and administration
Expert-level experience using people data to inform equitable policy development, decision-making, and program implementation
Professional-level skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices or procedures to: define problems or objectives, identify relevant concerns or factors, formulate objective conclusions, recognize alternatives and their implications, and make recommendations to executive and senior leadership
Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills to implement and maintain responsibilities and to complete assignments under conditions of fluctuating workload with frequent interruptions
Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, coaching, and inclusive leadership skills, including ability to work with and support diverse teams
Emotionally intelligent and culturally aware communication skills, especially in the following settings: addressing conflict, sensitive employee relations situations, implementing organizational change, influencing decisions, and building trust with the workforce
Effective conflict resolution skills and the ability to navigate sensitive, emotional, or difficult situations with empathy. Excellent critical and innovative thinking to address moderately complex issues and present nuanced analyses
Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise professional and support personnel; including setting and clearly communicating performance standards and expectations, understanding and responding to individual team member growth and opportunities while ensuring organizational equilibrium, and strive to create a cohesive positive, team environment
Experienced in academic personnel management and higher education administration, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and foster collaboration across departments
Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Preferred
Experience working with academic personnel matters preferably in Continuing Education environment, with thorough knowledge of organizational goals, priorities and values, and the legal and human implications of decisions
Possess a strong understanding of UC and UCLA academic policies, compliance requirements, and labor relations, with thorough knowledge of systemwide and organizational policies, union contracts, and the procedures and practices governing academic HR administration
Master's Degree and/or terminal degree and/or equivalent experience and educational training
