The New York Racing Association is a prominent organization involved in live racing and related activities. They are seeking a Vice President of Accounting to oversee and enhance the accounting systems, ensure compliance with regulations, and provide strategic financial leadership.

Responsibilities

Develops and executes long-term accounting strategies to support business growth and financial sustainability

Leads high-level financial analysis and reporting to support executive decision-making

Oversees the preparation of daily, monthly, annual and other periodic financial statements and reports

Ensures that financial and accounting statements, records, and reports and filings are accurate and timely. Provides useful and informative reports and data. Accurately conveys NYRA’s financial position

Ensures that accounting records and reports are in compliance with GAAP and government regulations. Reviews new accounting pronouncements for applicability and compliance. Cooperates with and assists external auditors as appropriate

Creates appropriate department policies and procedures and updates as needed. Ensures that policies are in accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements and industry trends

Ensures that department functions are conducted in accordance with established principles, standards, and legal requirements; that Company assets are safeguarded and preserved; that Department personnel are effective and efficient; and that positive business relations exist with auditors, government officials, and trade professionals

Directs the implementation efforts of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Designs the overall system and procedural workflow to ensure efficient and accurate financial reporting data

Leads the standardization of financial procedures and oversees the automation of manual activities

Responsible for managing operational aspects of their teams (e.g., reporting, performance, talent development and compliance), as well as implementing workforce and succession plans to meet business needs. Ensures that all employees are well informed of accounting policies, procedures, and regulations. Facilitates consistency at all levels of accounting

Required

CPA or MBA in Accounting

12+ years public and/or private Accounting experience and experience leading implementation of a new ERP system

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting practices and principles

Knowledge of internal controls over financial reporting

Knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations

Knowledge and experience of related computer applications

Initiative in improving processes, asking questions and communicating with colleagues in order to prepare quality financial reports

A quick study and enthusiastic about learning the horse racing business

Detail-oriented and analytical

Excellent interpersonal skills, a team player and diplomatic when giving feedback or seeking information, even under demanding deadlines; values being part of a culturally diverse workforce

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Determination and willingness to see projects through to completion

Comfortable with financial systems including SAP S4Hana Public Cloud and other information systems
