Full Time Scheduling Coordinator - Surgical Services (AM)

The George Washington University Hospital is a 395-bed academic medical center located in Washington, D.C. They are seeking a Scheduling Coordinator to support daily surgical operations by coordinating case schedules and maintaining accurate surgical calendars. This role is detail-heavy and critical for ensuring smooth surgical workflows by managing communication across various departments.

Responsibilities

Build, update, and maintain OR/procedure schedules; manage changes, add-ons, cancellations, and urgent updates
Verify scheduling details (procedure, surgeon, duration, special equipment, implants, patient status, etc.) and resolve gaps fast
Coordinate with Pre-Admission / pre-op processes so patients are properly routed and prepared
Communicate schedule changes to stakeholders in real time (charge nurses, anesthesia, SPD, PACU, endoscopy/procedure areas as applicable)
Maintain scheduling accuracy in the system (case logs, block utilization support, basic reporting/cleanup as assigned)
Provide excellent customer service to patients and clinical teams—calm, clear, and solutions-first

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
1+ year of scheduling, coordination, or healthcare admin experience (hospital, clinic, or procedural setting preferred)
Strong computer skills (scheduling systems + Microsoft Office)
Ability to multitask and stay accurate under pressure (because surgery schedules change like the weather)

Preferred

Experience in perioperative services, surgical scheduling, endoscopy/procedures, or hospital bed/OR management workflows
Familiarity with insurance authorization workflows and/or pre-admission testing coordination
Epic/ORM, Cerner, Meditech, or similar hospital scheduling system exposure
Strong Excel skills (filters, lookups, basic reporting)
