Responsibilities

Develops and prepares signing and pavement markings, signalization, and lighting plans, utilizing computer aided drafting and design (CADD)
Assists in the designs of signal head assemblies, railroad preemptions, signal system layouts, No Passing Zone Studies (NPZ), Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), and overhead and ground-mounted signs with the use of utility conflict reports in phase reviews
Assists in preparation of highway signing and pavement marking, signalization, and lighting component plans
Utilizes current Department highway design, signing and pavement marking, signalization, and lighting software, standards, and criteria
Performs Quality Assurance/Control reviews as required to ensure plans have been developed in accordance with appropriate design criteria, policy and procedures
Assists in coordinating all activities required to design traffic control devices, traffic signal systems, and lighting systems
Responsible for acquiring all necessary information needed to select acceptable and economically feasible solutions and identifies potential problems as well as assisting in providing solutions to those problems
Assists in obtaining input pertinent to local requirements and ordinances from municipalities and other governmental agencies
Assists in project management, field reviews and field evaluation, data collection, Local Agency Program (LAP) reviews, customer service request documentation, existing location of traffic control devices and any conflicts with proposed design elements determination and report preparation
Follows updated project schedules
Implements training materials in design of signing and pavement marking, signalization, lighting plans, overhead guide signs, ground mounted signs using appropriate computer software, Traffic Management Sites, and multi-post signs
Assists in technical reviews of engineering assignments, design processes, scope evaluation, and estimate
Assists in reviews of shop drawings thoroughly and maintains shop drawing files
Serves on Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for consultant design bid build, design/build projects, and alternative contracting

Required

A high school diploma or its equivalent
Candidates must be United States (U.S.) citizens or lawfully authorized alien workers
During a declared emergency event, the incumbent will be required to assist the District as needed
