Supervising Engineer Environmental Compliance
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is responsible for vital transportation and trade infrastructure. They are seeking a Supervising Engineer for Environmental Compliance to manage environmental compliance and clean construction initiatives, ensuring regulatory requirements are met during hazardous material abatement.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Manage the Environmental Field Office’s to ensure construction contracts comply with all regulatory requirements during hazardous material abatement
Support the Resident Engineers office staff in the review of plans, procedures, and construction inspection of all environmental related items
Support the Construction Management Division efforts to ensure that the Clean Construction initiative is carried out effectively
Make regular updates to the Locust environmental software and develop status reports for managers and other key staff
Serve as CMD’s point of contact for all sustainability initiatives including greenhouse gas reduction, embodied carbon reduction and any ENVISION / LEED requirements during construction. Inventory greenhouse gases and criteria air pollutants and their mitigation alternatives
Manage the efforts of the Materials Engineering Unit – Chemical Lab
Ensure timely sampling and testing of hazardous and universal waste streams, contaminated materials, and construction/demolition wastes at PA facilities and any required air and noise monitoring
Assist in determining lead and asbestos content used to support abatement programs and identify environmental conditions of a variety of media (air, water, soil, sediment, etc.)
Administer any consultant call-in agreements needed to carry out the work and Manage Commodities Bids for several waste streams
Qualification
Required
Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering / Environmental Engineering from an accredited college or university
HAZWOPER 40-hour certification
Hazardous Waste Management – RCRA Training meeting the requirements of 40CFR Part 262
Hazardous Material Transportation certification from the USDOT
A minimum of five (5) years' experience in a supervisory role in the environmental field
Demonstrated experience managing a team of consultants, permanent and specialty staff
Must have a valid driver's license
Must have completed all probationary periods at time of appointment to position
Preferred
Certified Industrial Hygienist certification
Envision or LEED Professional certification
Master's degree in environmental engineering
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
