Senior Financial Analyst

Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to enhance the Finance team's planning, reporting, and operations through data and automation. The role involves budget ownership, financial modeling, and collaboration with IT and other departments to optimize financial processes and reporting.

Responsibilities

Serve as Finance owner/administrator for the budgeting system, including configuration, maintenance of structures, templates, workflows, user access, and annual cycle setup
Own budget system training and enablement: job aids, office hours, training sessions, user support, and adoption troubleshooting
Partner with Finance/accounting and IT support to ensure actuals imports are accurate, timely, and validated; resolve issues and document repeatable checks
Lead the preparation of Finance planning models and packs: budget vs actual, rolling forecasts, scenario modeling (funding, volume, staffing, cost drivers), and leadership-ready summaries
Partner with the Director of Finance, Senior Accountant, and department leaders to gather assumptions, validate results, and convert analysis into planning decisions
Maintain repeatable planning calendars, templates, and standardized variance logic to improve consistency month-to-month and year-to-year
Develop and maintain Finance KPIs and Finance-owned operational measures (examples: liquidity/working capital indicators, reserve or runway measures, key efficiency and sustainability ratios, cost drivers, selected inventory/throughput measures Finance owns)
Build repeatable reporting outputs using the organization’s selected tools (currently Power BI, plus Excel/Power Query and other approved tools as appropriate), with emphasis on validation, documentation, and refresh discipline
Coordinate with IT Data/Analytics and other KPI owners to ensure Finance KPIs align to enterprise definitions, data governance standards, and reporting calendars
Coordinate and compile Finance-owned components required for Feeding America reporting (including finance and inventory-related inputs that originate in Finance or require Finance validation and tie-out)
Serve as Finance’s point of coordination with the organization’s owner of network reporting processes (e.g., Strategic Initiatives), ensuring Finance inputs are timely, accurate, and supported
Map Finance workflows and transaction flows (close support, allocations, grant billing support, imports, reconciliations tooling, reporting pipelines) to identify friction points, rework loops, and control risks
Build and maintain practical automations and tools that reduce manual effort and error (e.g., Excel/VBA tools, Power Query pipelines, standardized templates, workflow automations where appropriate) with clear documentation and controls
Establish “definition of done” expectations for recurring Finance reporting/automation deliverables (validation steps, tie-outs, versioning, and support documentation)
Maintain Finance data definitions and calculation logic that tie to accounting reality (GL, grants, restrictions, inventory valuation concepts), ensuring that Finance reporting can be explained and defended
Support audit readiness by maintaining documentation for key Finance models, KPI datasets, planning tools, and reconciliations that may be requested by auditors or funders
Serve as a collaborative partner across Finance and key departments—building tools people will actually use, and improving clarity of inputs/outputs
Support skill development in Finance through pairing and coaching on reporting discipline, modeling habits, and tool usage

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Analytics, or closely related field (required)
7–10+ years progressive experience in finance/accounting analysis with demonstrated ownership of budgeting, forecasting support, reporting, and process improvement (nonprofit experience strongly preferred)
Experience administering or supporting a budgeting system, including user training and annual cycle management (strongly preferred; required if this role will fully own the budget system)
Demonstrated ability to deliver repeatable tools, templates, and reporting outputs that improve speed, accuracy, and decision-making
At least 21 years of age; valid Arizona Driver's License with a safe driving record
Strong accounting fluency and discipline: ability to ensure Finance analytics and outputs align with internal control expectations and financial reporting logic
Mastery-level Excel (required): complex formulas, pivots, structured models; Power Query preferred
Ability to learn and use organizational reporting tools (currently Power BI) to produce reliable Finance dashboards and reporting packs
Practical automation mindset: ability to build “make-work-easier” tools (e.g., VBA and other approved automation approaches) with documented logic and validation steps
Strong process orientation: understands transaction flow, upstream/downstream impacts, and how to improve handoffs and reduce rework
Collaborative approach with IT Data/Analytics and other reporting/KPI owners; respects governance, security, and data stewardship boundaries
Communication skills sufficient to translate analysis into usable outputs (reports, dashboards, short summaries) and coordinate inputs with multiple stakeholders
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if applicable and must be directly related to the functions and body of knowledge required to successfully perform the job

Preferred

Experience in food bank/distribution environments (inventory flow concepts, cycle counts, throughput metrics, valuation impacts)
Familiarity with Feeding America reporting concepts and the nature of Finance's contributions to network submissions
Comfort with basic SQL concepts (helpful) and strong willingness to learn
Experience creating standardized templates and controlled workflows that strengthen audit readiness and reduce manual effort
Bilingual English/Spanish
