Quality Engineer

Interstate McBee is seeking a Quality Engineer to drive quality throughout the entire process, focusing on customer requirements, employee safety, productivity, and efficiency. The Quality Engineer will work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and maintenance to ensure optimal customer satisfaction and product quality.

Responsibilities

Serve as a resource to the department for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting and continuous improvement
Train and lead personnel in Root Cause Analysis and other quality tools to reduce defects, improve quality and reduce process variations
Recommend Corrective Actions required based on statistical trending of errors and problems affecting product quality and customer satisfaction
Develop, apply and maintain quality requirements and standards for development and manufacturing products
Support concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects representing Quality Assurance and the customer
Design and implement methods for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection
Promote and execute quality standards, inspection processes, test methodology, quality plans, documents and reports
Develop, execute and analyze quality-reporting measures. Develop and publish effective metrics
Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality assurance and assure that effective corrective action is implemented
May compile, write and deliver training material on quality standards and activities
Assists Engineering in preparing engineering process documentation
Gathers and analyzes process information including cycle times, measurements, test results, trends, etc., used for statistical process control, cost analysis, and planning
Actively drives productivity improvement programs, encompassing every aspect of the manufacturing process, from raw material to finished goods
Ensures safety and ergonomic considerations are made relating to equipment, process and plant layout
Works to ensure continuous improvements in equipment performance, process enhancements and lean practices implementation. Provides critical support and maintains open communication with other departments for maximum efficiency
Provides input to all new product processes and actively engages in manufacturing process flow, standard work, layout, etc. discussions and reviews
Recommend and take corrective action in compliance with quality audits, issues, etc. Participate in internal and external quality audits
Must spend significant time 'on the floor' across all operational shifts as needed
Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position

Required

BA/BS degree in a technical or administrative field -or- Min. of 5 years of industry experience
A mechanical background for the equipment, processes, inspection procedures, and methods of manufacturing our product within their area
Ability to operate precision inspection equipment (CMM, Zeiss Rondcom, Tesa scan) and general inspection equipment including optical comparator, micrometers, calipers, and indicators
Specialized professional knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of Lean Manufacturing, i.e. Work Cell Design, Flow, Standardized Work, Benchmarking and implementing Best Practices, Line Balancing, 8 Mudas, Kaizen, 5S, SMED, KanBan, TPM, OEE, Kaizen etc
Ability to perform calibration on a variety of gages
Ability to read, write and communicate in English in order to promote trainability and interpret work documents including manuals
Experience working with sub-micron tolerances
Experience with measurement systems analysis including gage capability and gage R&R
Experience with designing fixtures to improve measurement capability and repeatability
Ability to scrutinize measurement methods to identify and correct for sources of variation affecting measurement capability and repeatability
Thorough knowledge and working experience with GD&T and true position tolerancing
Working knowledge of roundness measurements including cylindricity, concentricity, coaxiality, runout and roundness
Working knowledge of surface finish/contour measurements including Ra, Rz, Rt, Wt, etc
Ability to use all basic inspection hand tools, optical comparator and indicators
High energy level, comfortable handling multiple tasks in conjunction with day to day activities
Good interpersonal skills. Ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful, mature, flexible
Good reasoning abilities, sound judgment
Good communication skills
Resourceful and well organized
Able to perform without direct supervision
