Senior Industrial Designer

Design Observer is a design/build firm specializing in interior design and architectural scale manufacturing. They are seeking a Senior Industrial Designer to manage design projects from concept to execution, focusing on fabrication techniques and client collaboration.

Responsibilities

Developing visual requirements from the concept phase to final project execution
Using industrial design capabilities to assess projects with a strong focus on fabrication techniques, aesthetic and design features, and manufacturability
Maintaining a strong intimacy with CAD, client interfacing, project management, quality control, scheduling and meeting deadlines, and interacting with multiple vendors

Required

7-10 years experience (post college) in industrial design, design / build, project management
College degree in Industrial Design or related design specialty required
CAD capabilities in the following programs – Fusion 360, Rhino, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite of products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and SketchUp
Working knowledge of 3D printers and their applications
Mechanical aptitude. Knowledge of industrial and manufacturing process, along with a comfortability with hand and power tools. Table Saw, Compound Miter Saw, Planer, broad array of hand tools, etc
Previous experience with variety of materials (woods, metals, acrylics) and finishes, as well as experience working with subcontractors and fabrication partners
Project management experience working across multiple projects and with multiple stakeholders, both internal (ie other team members and subcontractors / partners), as well as external (ie clients, client representatives, third party professional consultants)
Advanced hand sketching and visualization capabilities a must
Attention to detail with persistence and timely follow-through
Organized and capable planner. Must be able to iterate quickly based on feedback, constraints, and testing

Additional program knowledge is definitely a plus
