Pipeline Specialist

Responsibilities
Assisting with hot tapping and stopple equipment, perform valve maintenance, pigging operations, pipe cleaning (internal and external), hydrostatic testing and perform leak surveys using flame ionization equipment
Incumbent may be required to lead others, train, develop training, ensure compliance, supply financial input, scope projects and oversee the supervision of contractors and contract workers
Perform all phases of mobilizing, operating and maintaining heavy excavation equipment (hydrovac truck, backhoe, track hoe, side boom, dozer, and maintainers) to include excavation frequently on in-service natural gas and products pipelines
Coordinate and complete pipeline operations and maintenance tasks and projects in support of plant, pipeline, corrosion, measurement, controls, pipeline maintenance, and engineering
Inspecting welding operations on the pipeline, piping systems, well equipment, tools, support structures, and other equipment
Layout, cut, fit, and otherwise prepare material for welding
Assist welders in the fabrication of material from piping schematics and other drawings
Work from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions
Repair shorted pipeline casings and install CP test points on pipelines
Prepare pipelines for full encirclement sleeves for anomaly repairs
Identify, report and correct safety and environmental concerns
This individual will be responsible for administrative tasks including ordering and receiving required replacement parts, completing personal time sheets and expense accounts, and maintaining a company vehicle
Perform excavation spotter tasks and manage excavation crossings of lines
Operate large truck and trailer hauling equipment required to transport heavy work equipment or project materials to job site
Perform Hydrotests as needed
Inspect third-party construction, as directed
Identify reports and correct safety and environmental concerns
Actively participate in safety programs/initiatives, development of O&M Procedures, Site Specific Procedures, project scopes, and work plans
Assist in planning and coordinating pipeline shutouts involving hot and cold welding
Responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment as needed
Oversee the construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties
Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns
Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork
Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence
Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory and tariff requirements
Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism
Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listening carefully
Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance
Will work non-traditional hours as needed
Maintain a high regard for personal safety for the safety of company assets, employees, and the general public
Will maintain Operator Qualification on all assigned covered tasks as determined by direct Supervisor
Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special project duties as identified and defined
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent and minimum three (3) years of industry experience. Five (5) years of work experience can be substituted in lieu of education requirement
Knowledge of micrometers, calipers, and thickness testing equipment
Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors and construction inspectors, with focused attention on details, work rules, and adherence to required project work schedules
Strong mechanical skills and knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance procedures
Ability to operate heavy pipeline excavation equipment including large trucks
Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, P&IDs, and other diagrams
Knowledge of equipment operations and servicing
Knowledge of basic properties of metals
Basic knowledge of pipe SMYS grades and ANSI fitting pressure classes
Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Achieve and maintain all qualifications and progression requirements applicable to the job classification
May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties (regulatory welding certifications)
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel)
Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals)
Ability to plan and organize work for timely completion
Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and other diagrams
Good verbal and written communication skills
Strong customer focus and attention to detail
Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job
Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines
Ability to organize and prioritize daily work
Must acquire and maintain related OQ certifications in Natural Gas and Products pipe maintenance activities
Ability to lift up to 67 pounds repeatedly, including lifting from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, and overhead positions
Ability to carry up to 67 pounds up to a distance of 10 feet
Capable of pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 39 pounds over a distance of at least 1 foot to operate valves, equipment, or move materials
Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, often working at heights requiring fall protection
Ability to perform bending, twisting, pivoting, and lateral flexion of the lumbar and cervical spine to access work areas and perform tasks
Dexterity to operate hand tools such as wrenches, grasp, pinch, and manipulate small components with precision and safety
Physical endurance to stand, walk, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions including wet, hot, cold, and windy environments for extended periods
Flexibility to work overhead, at knee, waist, and ground levels, often requiring sustained physical effort and balance
Ability to work in uneven spaces, often lifting, pulling, or maneuvering heavy or bulky objects over distances up to 20-30 feet
Must respond to, and address, callouts, and emergencies after regular business hours
Varying working conditions from office settings to working outdoors in inclement weather conditions
Working with and around industrial hazards
Frequent travel, sometimes overnight, may be required
Occasional overtime may be required
Living environs will be relevant to the work location to address call outs and emergency response
May be required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours
The selected candidate must successfully pass a drug screening, background check, and fit-for-duty examination, including credit reports for specific positions—after receiving a job offer and before commencing employment
Must be willing work away from home up to 50% of the time
Preferred
Knowledge of company policies, procedures and practices, regulatory and tariff requirements
Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids and high- and low-pressure systems
Experience working on hazardous gas and liquids pipeline systems that incorporate API, ASME, and DOT codes and standards
Evidence of previous Operator Qualification (OQ) for pipeline maintenance
Class A / B CDL
Knowledge of Tallgrass policies, O&M procedures, construction practices, and regulatory requirements
Knowledge of Hazardous Waste Operations. (HAZWOPER)
Ability to sketch field drawings for as-builts, piping designs, BOM's, weld-maps, etc
