PAES Lab Director

St. Joseph Center for Special Learning is seeking a compassionate, motivated professional to serve as a PAES Lab Director. This role supports students with diverse learning needs as they develop functional, vocational, and life skills that lead to greater independence and meaningful adult outcomes.

Primary and Secondary Education

Responsibilities

The PAES Lab Director oversees the daily operation of a school-based vocational training lab utilizing the Practical Assessment Exploration System (PAES) framework. Responsibilities include:
Providing direct instruction, supervision, and coaching as students learn and practice job-related and functional life skills across PAES work domains
Incorporating an artistic and creative component into certain lab activities to support skill development, engagement, fine motor skills, and self-expression
Coordinating daily lab schedules and work rotations to ensure effective use of time and resources to ensure all students have opportunities in the lab
Maintaining a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
Monitoring and documenting student performance, progress, work behaviors, and outcomes
Completing required data collection, reports, and documentation aligned with PAES assessments and IEP goals
Communicating student observations, progress, and areas of growth with teachers, related service providers, and the IEP team
Supporting individualized learning needs while promoting independence, responsibility, and work readiness
Performing additional duties as assigned in support of the PAES program and school community

Required

High school diploma required
Experience working with children or young adults with special needs is strongly recommended
Ability to work hands-on with students of varying abilities
Required state and district clearances

Preferred

Postsecondary education in education, special education, vocational training, or related field preferred
Artistic skills or experience (visual arts, crafts, design, or creative instruction) strongly preferred
