Responsibilities
Conducting structural analysis, preparing detailed plans and specifications, and reviewing contractor submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs to ensure compliance with the design intent
Mentoring junior engineers and BIM technicians, providing guidance on project work and technical aspects
Facilitating communication and coordination among clients, project architects, municipal agencies, and other members of the design team to ensure the structural design aligns with project objectives and complies with regulatory standards
Actively engaging in client calls, providing technical expertise and contributing to project discussions
Designing, formulating plans, and supervising the production work of junior engineers
Writing clear summaries and memos of own work
Identifying project issues and presenting solutions to junior teammates
Reviewing the shop drawings to ensure alignment with the architectural and structural design plans
Confirming that the materials, dimensions, and methods of fabrication meet the project's technical requirements
Marking up corrections where necessary and approving the drawings once they meet the design and safety criteria
Understanding and implementing selected approach in all areas of project and directing junior engineers
Independently performing analyses and design with little direction
Ensuring that each completed project meets local codes, regulations, and quality standards
Performing accurate backchecking of project documentation
Designing structural elements of each project using computer software like Rhino, Revit, RISA, ETABS, SAP, and RAM
Ensuring accuracy and precision with a high level of attention to detail
Developing critical thinking and analytical skills by learning to assess situations and break issues into manageable parts, evaluate possible solutions and make informed decisions
Effectively communicating, both verbally and written, to ensure clear and effective interactions with all parties including clients, teammates and management
Learning the importance of resource utilization, project budget and collected revenue/labor ratios and how to ensure they are given correct consideration
Assisting in cost and personnel estimating as well as proposal preparation
Participating in providing input concerning project budgeting and collections
Contributing to Business Development efforts through developing positive and professional client relationships
Mentoring and training junior teammates, providing guidance on project work and technical aspects
Complying with business requirements such as completion of timesheets, correct utilization of project codes, completion of required training
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field and seven (7) years of relevant experience in structural analysis and design of mid to high-rise buildings, including project management; or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field and five (5) years of relevant experience in structural analysis and design of mid to high-rise buildings, including project management
Minimum 5 years of experience in performing and supervising the design and analysis of mid to high rise buildings
Minimum 5 years of experience utilizing software packages such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, Rhino, PCA and SAFE
Minimum 5 years of Experience with preparing structural models and extract data for wind tunnel testing, applying wind tunnel loads to the structural model, and understanding the supplemental damping strategies
Extensive knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices
Knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues
Detail oriented with strong interpersonal, problem solving and team skills
Deep knowledge of construction materials and methodologies
Proven drafting skills, exemplified by a portfolio of prior work
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Preferred
Master's Degree in Civil, Structural Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer's (PE) license
Experience working in Grasshopper
