Power Control Engineer
Skibo Energy is developing advanced Thermal Energy Storage technologies that reshape how renewable energy is captured, stored, and delivered. They are seeking a Power Control Engineer to lead electrical, power electronics, and control-system design across various projects, ensuring compliance with standards and supporting system integration.

Responsibilities
Perform power-flow, short-circuit, protection, and stability studies
Develop interconnection models for TES systems, inverter-based resources, microgrids, and hybrid configurations
Analyze grounding approaches, fault behavior, and protection coordination requirements
Support system-level design for CHESS Energy’s Neighborhood Energy Centers and Green Rock Energy project integrations
Design control strategies for microgrid operations and TES charge/discharge behavior
Contribute to supervisory control logic and interface development with SCADA, EMS, or BMS platforms
Define dynamic response behavior for integrated TES and inverter-based systems
Ensure all designs comply with NEC, NFPA 70E, applicable IEEE standards, UL requirements, and utility rules
Prepare technical documentation for utility interconnection applications
Maintain alignment with IEEE 1547, 2030.7, 2030.8, and ISO/RTO power-quality standards
Provide engineering support during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting
Conduct field validation, system testing, and integration support activities
Collaborate with EPCs, utilities, and external integrators
Qualification
Required
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in power systems
6–10 years of experience in utility, grid-connected, or microgrid power systems
Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, PSSE, or Power Factory; experience with AutoCAD or Revit
Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 855, IEEE standards, UL requirements, and utility interconnection processes
Familiarity with ISO/RTO interconnection, IEEE 1547/2030.7/2030.8, and power quality requirements
Excellent communication skills for interfacing with utilities, regulators, and public agencies
Systems-level thinking and ability to innovate in emerging technology environments
Preferred
Experience with renewable energy environments
Hands-on commissioning and field troubleshooting background
Experience modeling battery systems, inverter-based resources, grounding, and protection schemes
