Senior Laboratory Technician
The University of Kentucky's Emfinger lab in the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center is focused on exploring factors that drive diabetes risk through insulin secretion and action. They are seeking a Senior Laboratory Technician to conduct wet-lab and informatics analysis, including research procedures involving mice and molecular biology assays.
Responsibilities
The lab uses multiple model systems in wet-lab experiments as well as dry lab informatics analysis
The employee at this position will be responsible for carrying out research procedures involving mice (genotyping, in vivo assays, colony maintenance), cell/tissue culture, molecular biology assays, and some informatics data analysis
Self-motivation, positive attitude, passion and dedication for science, organizational skills, excellent interpersonal, verbal and written English skills are essential for this position
The employee will perform and co-ordinate multiple lab tasks with their fellow members on a daily basis
They will also ensure maintenance of lab supplies, equipment, proper disposal of all materials, and compliance with University regulations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree and about 1 year of relevant experience working in a biomedical research laboratory
mouse handling
pipetting
solution preparation
MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
GraphPad Prism
cell and tissue culture
verbal and written English proficiency
programming (R, Python)
Preferred
Prior experience in animal handling
metabolic research
programming
islet biology
