Principal Electrical Engineer
CMC Partners is a well-capitalized, founder-led hyperscale data center developer and operator building next-generation digital infrastructure across North America. They are seeking a Principal-level Electrical Engineer to shape the technical direction and lead electrical design strategy for hyperscale data center projects.
Responsibilities
Lead electrical design strategy for hyperscale data center projects, including greenfield developments, phased expansions, retrofits, and acquisitions
Architect resilient power systems covering HV distribution, substations, UPS, generators, and load management
Deliver cost-optimized, scalable designs aligned with long-term operability and reliability
Evaluate emerging technologies to enhance efficiency, redundancy, and performance
Collaborate closely with internal compute, networking, and infrastructure teams to support AI and hyperscale workloads
Ensure compliance with NFPA, IEEE, ANSI, and applicable regulatory requirements
Lead technical reviews, design summits, and commissioning activities
Champion safety, reliability, and operational excellence across all electrical systems
Manage and coordinate MEP design partners to ensure mission-critical performance
Oversee vendor engagement, change management, cost forecasting, and technical documentation
Lead technical discussions with major OEMs and technology partners (e.g. power, cooling, and electrical infrastructure suppliers)
Provide senior technical leadership and mentorship to internal engineering teams
Act as a subject matter expert and thought leader across the organization
Qualification
Required
BSc / MSc / PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
10+ years' experience in data center or mission-critical electrical engineering
Deep expertise in power distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators, and redundancy strategies
Strong understanding of scalability, energy efficiency, and reliability in hyperscale environments
Proven ability to lead complex, high-stakes projects and influence senior stakeholders
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, but not required
