The role involves developing, maintaining, and enhancing automated data warehouse applications, coordinating team activities, and working with other developers to review and modify data warehouse policies and practices.

Responsibilities
Developing, maintaining, and enhancing a variety of automated data warehouse applications located on the State of Michigan’s Teradata Data Warehouse platform
Representing the team and coordinating team activities with other data warehouse teams on complex, multi-team projects
Working with other data warehouse developers to review existing data warehouse policies and practices, modifying them as needed, or proposing new policies or practices
Creating Data Warehouse BI applications including ETL/data mart development, reporting, dashboards and other information analysis and delivery system
Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, with programmers, analysts, immediate supervisor, management, system users, operations, other State agencies and the private sector
Meeting with users for clarification and elaboration as may be necessary to clearly define a problem and conceptualize a development plan
Recognizing, gathering, correlating, and analyzing facts, drawing conclusions, defining problems, and devising solutions and alternatives and making appropriate recommendations
Designing applications taking into consideration data reconciliation, query/reporting performance, and analytical business value
Consulting with agency clients to explain complex IT processes and solutions, developing and maintaining an effective communication plan with DTMB and agency clients relating to project level metrics, bureau level project reporting, etc
Assisting Architect or DBA to draft technical database model that complies with audit separation of duty requirement, captures requirements of data elements, and designs data elements to best meet application needs
Reviewing and approving updates to systems documentation
Gathering, reviewing, and analyzing potential impacts of changes and informing DTMB management and supported client agency of impact and risks to existing IT solutions due to proposed legislation, enhancement requests, changes in government requests, changes in governmental processes or procedures
Providing professional technical expertise to the DTMB AS PMO Managers and client agency managers and supervisors in IT project estimating, and budgeting
Serving as a team lead and resource, directing the code development, providing advice and guidance to other development staff
Evaluating and identifying opportunities for programming process or tools standardization
Performing disaster recovery planning and implementation
Providing input to procedures and ensuring proper change management for all requested fixes to production systems
Reviewing and approving test plans. Incorporating all levels of security, which were identified as system requirements, into test plans
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical study
6+ Years Creating Data Warehouse BI applications including ETL/data mart development, reporting, dashboards and other information analysis and delivery system
2+ Years Child Welfare Services, Juvenile Justice, Juvenile services, or other related experience
Preferred
Experience with the State of Michigan PMM/SUITE/Agile methodology
SQL Assistant/Teradata Studio Experience, BI applications
End user training experience
Must be able to work independently with little directions
Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with programmers, analysts, immediate supervisor, management, system users, operations, other State agencies and the private sector
Meet with users for clarification and elaboration as may be necessary to clearly define a problem and conceptualize a development plan

Experience working with Data Modelers and developers, facilitating modification of the logical design to create a physical design most suited to the reporting needs of the customer

With the Business Analyst, presents the information gathered to the Project Review Board and/or Project Sponsors during project review meetings, project workgroups and to the Technical Review Board providing clarification and answers to questions
