Responsibilities
Partner closely with R&D teams to understand product designs, incoming components, interfaces, and assembly sequences
Evaluate and define critical assembly and inspection requirements, including functional, mechanical, and electrical checks
Establish “what good looks like” from an assembly, inspection, and process standpoint early in development
Lead the prototyping, development, and build-out of manual and semi-manual assembly stations, including fixtures, nests, gauges, and tooling
Ensure fixtures and equipment are robust, repeatable, and operator-friendly
Support time studies, process optimization, and line balancing activities
Develop and execute manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, PFMEAs, and control plans
Own specific pieces of equipment or processes (e.g., welders, end-of-line testers) and deliver fully validated processes
Participate in equipment build, try-out, testing, debugging, and iteration to ensure processes meet design and manufacturing requirements
Support bringing existing or previously installed assembly lines to a production- and ship-ready state
Support transition from development into scaled manufacturing environments as needed
Qualification
Required
Strong background in assembly process development, particularly manual or low-automation operations
Experience working directly with R&D teams during early development phases
Hands-on experience developing assembly stations and manufacturing processes from scratch
Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and functional inspection or testing within assembly processes
Experience owning process validation activities from development through execution
Working knowledge of PFMEA, control plans, and manufacturing documentation
Experience working with or supporting custom equipment, fixtures, and tooling
Comfortable working directly with suppliers and equipment vendors in a development environment
Preferred
Medical device, automotive, robotics, aerospace, or automation-related manufacturing experience
Exposure to small, precision component assembly environments
Experience supporting NPI, industrialization, or advanced development teams
Prior involvement in equipment qualification, debugging, or factory acceptance testing
