Post-Doctoral Associate - Parrott Lab

The University of Georgia is Georgia’s oldest and most comprehensive institution of higher education. The Post-Doctoral Associate will be responsible for planning, conducting, and managing all aspects of research related to transformation and genome editing in monocots, including establishing a transformation pipeline and supervising project-related personnel.

Responsibilities

Design and test regeneration/transformation protocols for grasses using appropriate experimental design
Design and test vectors for transformation and editing
Design, test, and analyze a) multiplexed genome editing in a heterozygous polypoid, and b) engineer one metabolic pathway
Communicating regularly and in a timely fashion with the PI regarding research and other issues relevant to the operation of the laboratory and prepare timely progress reports, record technical procedures with a high level of detail, analyze data as necessary, and promptly prepare manuscripts for publication
Coordinating research with other labs
Assisting with the daily operations of the laboratory as well as the training and supervision of the other members of the laboratory
Handle permits and shipping authorization requests
Other related duties as assigned. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills used

Required

PhD in related plant science field
Competency in plant tissue culture and transformation
Competency in vector construction
Competency in gene editing using both CRISPR/Cas
Competency in analyzing genome editing
Competency in experimental design, statistical analysis & high throughput
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as excellent writing skills as demonstrated by a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
Ability to publish in the field of plant molecular genetics and/or genomics
Lift 25 pounds, with stand varying temperatures in greenhouses and fields
