Grain Moisture Inspector

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is responsible for promoting and improving agriculture and consumer services in North Carolina. They are seeking a Grain Moisture Inspector to provide inspections of grain moisture meters, ensuring accuracy and compliance, while performing both fieldwork and laboratory tasks.

Responsibilities

Providing inspection of grain moisture meters throughout the state, determining their accuracy of reading the moisture content of grains such as corn, soybeans, and wheat
Making moisture and test weight standards, cleaning grain samples, and maintaining laboratory testing equipment
Communicating with local grain facilities and customers to arrange sample collections at the time of harvest
Performing inspections of balances, grain charts, and thermometers used at these businesses
Performing scale inspections at retail locations within their territory between seasons
Completing daily checks and scheduling preventative maintenance on a state-owned vehicle

Required

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with wholesalers, retailers and other persons engaged in the use and operation of weighing and measuring devices that are being regulated
Must be able to communicate both in oral and written form
Must be able to interpret data to recognize trends and failures and to use this information to make regulatory decisions
Ability to work independently, manage supply inventories, develop and maintain their inspection schedule, and be competent in basic computer skills
Must be able to lift and carry approximately 50 pounds
Must have possession of a valid driver's license
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related work experience in the gas and oil industry, or scale industry or grain industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
