Well-Being Executive Director

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a Well-Being Executive Director to provide visionary leadership for their wellbeing strategy. This role focuses on integrating health equity and emotional wellness across YMCA centers, while developing holistic wellbeing programs that foster community connection and member engagement.

Responsibilities

Develop and lead a comprehensive, equity-centered wellbeing strategy across YMCA centers
Advance pathways to belonging through member-focused engagement strategies in membership, programs, volunteerism, and philanthropy
Integrate wellness into all center operations and partnerships, with a focus on physical, mental, and social wellbeing
Align wellbeing priorities with organizational goals and community health needs
Directly supervise wellbeing staff and healthy living teams across centers
Build capacity in frontline staff (e.g., Community Wellbeing Champions, fitness staff) through training, coaching, and performance support
Collaborate with leadership to infuse wellbeing competencies across departments
Design and oversee innovative offerings including group exercise, personal training, small group training, wellness education, and chronic disease prevention
Partner with community health providers, local agencies, and nonprofit organizations to expand outreach and engagement
Ensure all programs are inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive
Establish clear metrics and tools to evaluate the impact of wellbeing programs across YMCA centers
Analyze data on membership trends, program participation, health outcomes, and community engagement to inform continuous improvement
Lead regular reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) to internal leadership and external partners
Use data to elevate stories of impact, support grant applications, and guide resource allocation
Collaborate with the data and membership teams to ensure accurate, ethical, and meaningful data collection aligned with strategic goals
Ensure consistent and high-quality delivery of all wellbeing-related services across YMCA centers
Develop and manage budgets, support revenue-generating fitness and wellness services, and identify new funding opportunities
Lead initiatives to strengthen operational infrastructure for group exercise, personal training, and wellness coaching
Engage with members regarding their participation in YMCA Programs, Annual Support Campaign, and special events
Participate in community outreach through grassroots outings, building relationships and partnerships with community leaders, local businesses, and local government
Travel required
Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management
Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Fairness) as well as the YMCA Core Values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff
Demonstrate competencies in and willingness to develop in the Cause Driven Leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness and personal growth

Required

Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Kinesiology, Organizational Leadership, or related field preferred
Master's degree preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to inspire others, handle multiple priorities, and work collaboratively across departments
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and member management systems
Data analysis, budget management, community relations, and programming
7–10 years of leadership in wellness, health promotion, or community health
Proven ability to build relationships, meet goals, and motivate others toward healthy living
Experience leading cross-functional teams, building community partnerships, and scaling programs across multiple locations
You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations
Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds
Must demonstrate auditory and visual ability to observe and respond to situations in the fitness and membership areas
