Electrical Project Engineer

The Project Engineer – Electrical will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems and control panels, collaborating with multiple departments to ensure accurate and cost-effective designs that meet customer specifications.
Responsibilities
Prepare preliminary electrical designs, control concepts, and quotations based on customer-supplied specifications, sequences of operation, and project requirements
Design complete electrical circuits, control panels, and system layouts for standard and custom Engineered Systems products
Utilize electrical CAD software to create, modify, and maintain ladder diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and related documentation in accordance with departmental standards
Review engineering orders and sales documentation for completeness, accuracy, and technical feasibility prior to design release
Develop and document electrical bills of material (BOMs), component specifications, and procurement requirements for manufacturing
Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes, standards, and customer specifications
Work closely with the Sales Department to interpret customer requirements and support technical feasibility and quotation development
Coordinate electrical designs with Mechanical Engineering to ensure proper integration of wiring, conduit, and control components
Evaluate, recommend, and support the purchase of electrical shop equipment, tooling, and engineering supplies to support manufacturing and testing needs
Select vendor-supplied components based on safety, performance, cost, and availability; obtain and evaluate vendor quotations as required
Provide technical guidance to production, quality, and service personnel regarding electrical designs and control systems
Support the electrical shop by clarifying wiring methods, assembly requirements, and special control configurations
Assist with testing, debugging, and evaluation of control panels, electrical components, and new or modified products
Troubleshoot electrical and control issues during production, startup, or field service activities, including remote troubleshooting as needed
Participate in cost-reduction initiatives and recommend improvements to electrical designs, components, or processes
Evaluate competitive products and technologies to support product development, standardization, and sales initiatives
Provide occasional field support, including customer training, startup assistance, or issue resolution
Create, review, and maintain engineering documentation, instruction manuals, warning/caution labels, and specifications related to electrical systems
Coordinate with external consultants or documentation resources as needed to support manuals and technical publications
Maintain awareness of changes in local, national, and industry electrical codes and standards; update designs and practices accordingly
Support documentation control, BOM accuracy, and data management efforts within the Engineering Department
Support and oversee electrical bill of material (BOM) accuracy, system integration, and data management improvements related to electrical designs
Identify opportunities for design optimization, standardization, cost reduction, and process improvement
Support development of electrical design standards, motor control selection guidelines, and best practices for use by Sales and Engineering
Participate in training, seminars, equipment demonstrations, and industry events to maintain current technical knowledge
Contribute to a culture of collaboration, innovation, and quality excellence within the Engineering Department
Serve as a technical backup to the ES Engineering Manager during absences or field assignments, as directed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology preferred
5+ Years experience in electrical design, industrial controls, or control panel development in a manufacturing or engineered systems environment preferred
Experience using electrical CAD software and developing ladder diagrams and schematics
Electrical Engineering Principles: Strong understanding of electrical circuits, control systems, and industrial power distribution
CAD Proficiency: Skilled in electrical CAD software for ladder diagrams, schematics, and wiring documentation
Controls & Automation: Knowledge of PLC programming, operator interfaces, and motor control systems (Rockwell Automation preferred)
Technical Accuracy: Ability to develop detailed designs that meet specifications, codes, and safety requirements
Communication & Collaboration: Effective at conveying technical information and coordinating with cross-functional teams
Analytical Thinking: Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and resolve design or application issues
Attention to Detail: Strong commitment to accuracy, organization, and documentation standards
Adaptability: Willingness to learn new technologies, codes, and procedures to support evolving products and customer needs
Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering software applications
Preferred
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology preferred
5+ Years experience in electrical design, industrial controls, or control panel development in a manufacturing or engineered systems environment preferred
Familiarity with industrial control systems, PLCs, operator interface terminals, variable frequency drives, and motor starters preferred
