Development Coordinator (Part Time)

Community Roots School Food Services Agency is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Development Coordinator to support a growing portfolio of fundraising activities. The Development Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Community Engagement Specialist to strengthen and expand the organization’s fundraising infrastructure through various activities including donor engagement, event coordination, and grant support.

Responsibilities

Maintain accurate donor records and manage the donor database, including data entry, gift processing, and reporting
Support donor communications including phone calls, acknowledgment letters, newsletters, impact updates, and campaign materials
Assist in planning and executing campaigns and special appeals
Help organize and staff outreach and fundraising events, donor gatherings, and community activities that elevate awareness of Community Roots’ mission
Support event design, logistics, outreach, materials development, and event follow-up
Create outreach materials including digital invitations, event posters, social media images, short videos, and flyers
Support communication strategy including social media, e-news, and website content and management
Prepare and update development materials such as donor decks, case statements, wish lists, fact sheets, letters, flyers, etc
Assist cross-departmentally and with Development Consultant to ensure alignment of fundraising efforts with program goals, communications, and brand strategy
Maintain organized files and systems to build capacity in support of long-term fundraising operations
Conduct research on new funding prospects, including foundations, business partners, government grants, and individual philanthropists
Assist with drafting, editing, and preparing grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funder reports
Track application deadlines, deliverables, and reporting requirements to ensure timely submissions
Maintain a grant docket to document funding opportunities and their status

Required

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in philanthropy, communications, food systems, or nonprofit management
Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with experience in storytelling and impact reporting
Extensive proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, and basic project management tools; willingness to learn about new donor databases (CRM systems)
Strong customer service skills with a focus on providing a warm and professional presence when making phone calls and interacting with event attendees
Research skills with the ability to synthesize information and present findings clearly and succinctly
Experience and high comfort level working in Microsoft office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc
Demonstrated interest in school food, food justice, community health, sustainable food systems or education
Proactive and self-directed, thriving in independent and collaborative settings
Curious and creative in their approach to problem-solving and managing shifting priorities
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Honest and committed to maintaining high ethical standards and confidentiality
A fast learner who demonstrates humility, openness, transparency, and empathy in alignment with the organization's values
TB and criminal justice fingerprint clearance
Valid California Driver's License or ability to visit several school sites throughout the work week
Proof of automobile insurance coverage
Ability to travel to schools and community events as needed
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
Office and field-based work environment with moderate physical activity required
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred

Basic graphic design skills with preference for Canva experience
Familiarity with grant writing or public funding processes
