Head of Electrical Engineering & Systems
OptiGrid is revolutionizing how power is delivered and utilized by building battery-based energy storage systems for electric vehicles. The Head of Electrical Engineering and Systems will lead the design, integration, and validation of power conversion systems while managing cross-functional engineering teams.

Responsibilities
Own system-level architecture and design of power electronics products like: DC-DC converters, inverters, Battery Management Systems, and other parts of the charger
Guide hardware design across analog/digital, high-voltage, and high-power domains
Ensure system integration between power stage, control and communication systems, thermal management, and mechanical packaging
Manage system level integration coupled with lab and application testing during the product development phase
Lead product design cycle for a new product development, design reviews, technical risk assessments, and root cause analysis
Manage sustaining and field support group within Systems Engineering team
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing EE and Systems Engineering team of 10-12 people
Define team roles, workflows, and best practices for design, simulation, prototyping, and testing
Foster cross-functional collaboration with mechanical, software, test, and manufacturing teams
Manage engineering deliverables across multiple projects, ensuring quality, timelines, and cost goals, while collaborating with Program Manager who is tracking timeline
Coordinate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to support prototype and production builds
Lead a compliance effort with relevant safety UL and CSA standards
Scout and evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., SiC/GaN semiconductors, digital control, custom magnetics, thermal, etc.)
Contribute to the strategic roadmap for product and technology development
Represent the company in technical discussions with customers, partners, and stakeholders
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or master's in electrical engineering, Power Electronics, or related field
Minimum 10+ years of experience in leading technical teams in power systems engineering in a hardware or embedded systems environment
Proven track record of designing and shipping power conversion products (10 kW+ systems)
Experience with design tools (e.g., PLECS, LTspice, Altium, MATLAB/Simulink)
Experience with hardware test systems, embedded devices, and low-level troubleshooting
Product development experience – developed a product from its inception to mass production
Project Management skills, Gantt chart development
Strong understanding of hardware/software integration and product release processes
Magnetics design and thermal management
Embedded systems and digital control
Startup mindset — hands-on, fast-moving, solutions-oriented
Preferred
Experience working with or managing contract manufacturers (CMs)
Familiarity with embedded development environments, flashing tools, and OTA update systems
Exposure to compliance or certification processes (FCC, UL, etc.)
